Altcoins are the other cryptocurrencies that have been released since Bitcoin's popularity. We typically market themselves as safer alternatives to Bitcoin. The word "altcoins" refers to cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin. As of early 2020, some figures indicated more than 5,000 cryptocurrencies.
Altcoin is a simplified form of the word "alternative coin" and is a cryptocurrency type that is not Bitcoin. Essentially, any cryptocurrency except Bitcoin is called an Altcoin. Some of the common Altcoins include Ethereum(ETH), Litecoin(LTC), Ripple XRP, Cardano(ADA) and Stellar Lumens (XLM).
